Members of the public can participate in their local government by serving on city boards and commissions. Some hear appeals, advocate, provide expertise, receive public concerns and establish policies. The citizens who volunteer to serve on committees bring diverse skills and talents, new perspectives and, often, a strong interest in subject matter to their task.
Boards and commissions are important in that they enable citizens to participate in Marietta's government processes. Because governing bodies have many responsibilities, boards and committees are created to focus on special issues, activities or programs.
