COURT OPERATIONS DURING COVID-19 RECOVERY
Marietta Municipal Court has remained vigilant of changing COVID-19 conditions in our community. Consistent with Supreme Court Chief Justice Harold Melton's "Order Extending Declaration of Statewide Judicial Emergency", our court is following the best practices and guidelines developed by the Georgia Council of Municipal Court Judges and that Order for the gradual expansion of services offered by the court to ensure the safety and health of both the court staff and the public during the pandemic. Our lobby and drive-thru are open during normal business hours to assist individuals. Assistance is also available by phone by calling 770-794-5400 or via email at citycourtclerks@mariettaga.gov. Gradual Expansion of Services During COVID-19 Recovery: Marietta Municipal Court has been closely monitoring developments around the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). As part of our Continuity of Operations Plan, our goal is to limit the impact on visitors and staff. As such, it has been necessary to reschedule most cases. If your case was impacted by the rescheduling of court sessions, a notice has been mailed to the address on file with the court.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The City of Marietta Municipal Court is one of over 400 local courts of the Georgia Judicial System. Jurisdiction is limited to misdemeanor offenses of shoplifting of $500 or less; possession of marijuana (less than 1 ounce) and traffic offenses including DUI. The court adjudicates violations of local ordinances including zoning and parking offenses. Municipal Court also imposes civil penalties for photo-enforced red-light violations and photo-enforced school bus stop arm violations.
Municipal Court has the right and power to conduct non-jury trials, receive guilty pleas and impose sentence in the manner required by law. Sentences handed down by this court are limited to 12 months and a fine of up to $1,000 per offense. However, sentences for multiple charges may run consecutively to one another or consecutively to another case. These sentences may also be served on probation.
